James points out in his pastoral letter to the early churches th,e foolishness of believers who want to focus only on religion and not get involved in practical help for the poor.
“Suppose a brother or a sister is without clothes and daily food. If one of you say to him, Go, I wish you well; keep warm and well fed, but does nothing about his physical needs, what good is it? Faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.” James 2:14-17.
